Win a chance to be an LC State Creative Writing Student for a Day. Sponsored by LC State's BFA Program, Admissions, and Student Affairs

Who Can Submit?

  • High school students – any grade level

What Do I Submit?

  • 3 to 5 poems, or
  • One long piece of fiction or creative nonfiction (1,000 to 4,000 words), or
  • Two short pieces of fiction or creative nonfiction (250 to 1,000 words each)

How Do I Submit?

  • Include your contact info on your submission (name, home address, email, phone #).
  • Attach your submission as a Word doc or PDF, or copy/paste it directly into your email.
  • Email your submission to humanties@lcsc.edu with the subject heading “BFA Contest.”
  • You may also mail your submission via post:

When Do I Submit?   

  • Now until February 1, 2024
  • Work via USPS mail must arrive by February 1

What Do I Win?

  •  A “day in the life” of an LC State Creative Writing student on Friday, March 8, 2024
  • Participation in a series of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction workshops with experienced, published LC State faculty
  • A session on the various types of jobs available for creative writing majors
  • A special tour of the LC State campus
  • Prizes! Prizes! Prizes!

  • LC State Writing Faculty

What Else Should I Know?

  • Contest winners are responsible for transportation to and from the LC State campus.
  • LC State will offer special programming for parents/chaperones.
