International graduates who hold a designated STEM degree, may be eligible for a 24 month OPT Stem Extension.
Verify that you and your employer meet all eligibility requirements to apply for the OPT STEM extension.
Complete the Form I-983 Training Plan for STEM OPT Students with your employer. This must be completed before meeting with IPO staff for an updated I-20.
Schedule an in-person or virtual meet-up with your International Programs advisor. Your advisor will issue you a new I-20 with STEM OPT Extension recommendation.
Prepare all required materials for the USCIS OPT STEM Extension Application.
While not required, we highly recommends meeting with an international programs advisor for a final review of your completed application materials and/or completing the online submission together.
Submit your application. You can track your application at USCIS Case Status Online.
