Graduation Rates Of Bachelor's Seekers

This dashboard provides insights into graduation rates, focusing on undergraduate students who were full-time, first-time, and pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) when they first enrolled.

Graduation Rates of Degree/Certificate Seekers

This dashboard provides insights into graduation rates, focusing on undergraduate students who were full-time, first-time, and pursuing any type of degree or certificate when they first enrolled.

The data files used in these two reports, gr_[academic year]_pell_sll (ex: gr_2017_pell_sll), display the graduation rate data for the sub cohorts of full-time, first-time degree/certificate and bachelors-seeking undergraduates at both four year and two year institutions. The two sub cohorts are students who received a Pell grant; and students who received a Direct Subsidized loan and did not receive a Pell grant. The graduation rate is calculated by taking the number of students in a cohort divided by the total number of students who graduated or completed a credential within the normal time (defined in Key Terms Tab).

  • Variables (Total Cohort):
    • Grtype: A number that tells us which sub cohort the row of data corresponds to.
      • Bachelor's Seekers Cohort
        • 8: Total # of students in Bachelor's or equivalent sub cohort.
        • 16: # of Bachelor's or equivalent transfer out students within 150% of normal time.
        • 9: Completers (both sub cohorts) within 150% of normal time.
        • 12: # of Bachelor's completers within 150% of normal time.
      • Degree/Certification Seekers Cohort:
        • 2: Total # of students in Completers sub cohort.
        • 4: # of students that transferred out.
        • 3: # of students that completed their degree or certification within 150% of normal time.
  • Variables (Pell Grant Cohort):
    • pgrevct: Total # of students in the cohort.
    • pgcmtot: # of completers within 150% of normal time.
    • pgcmbacc: # of Bachelor's completers within 150% of normal time.

Graduation Rate By Cohort, Start Year, and Enrollment Type

This dashboard illustrates student graduation rates within 4, 6, and 8 years of when they entered the institution, as well as the percentage of students still enrolled or transferred after 8 years. It compares outcomes for LC State and peer institutions.

There are many variants of graduation rates. The difference between these graduation rate are the population of people included in the rate, and the duration of time given to earn the degree or certificate. The above table depicts the different characteristics of each rate depicted in the reports.

  • Normal Time for Completion: The standard duration for completing a program, as defined by the institution’s catalog. Usually, 4 years for a bachelor’s degree, 2 years for an associate degree, and varies for certificates depending on credit requirements.
  • 150% Completion: An extended timeframe for completing a degree, which is 150% of the standard duration. For instance, students have up to 6 years to finish a 4-year bachelor's degree.
  • Full-Time Student: Enrolled in at least 12 semester credits, 12 quarter credits, or 24 clock hours per week.
  • First-Time Student: A student with no previous college experience. This includes those who attended summer classes before starting their first fall term or entered with college credits earned in high school.

  • Total Cohort Tab: This includes all students who were full-time, first-time, and pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) when they first enrolled.
  • Pell Grant Tab: This section highlights students who received and used a Pell Grant during their first year. It represents a subset of the total cohort.

  • Total Completers within 150% Tab: This tab shows the percentage of students who completed any program within 150% of the normal time. For example: A 4-year bachelor's degree completed within 6 years. A 2-year associate degree completed within 3 years. Time for certificates depends on credit requirements. The "normal time" for completion is based on the institution's catalog.
  • Bachelor’s Completed within 150% Tab: This tab focuses on the percentage of students who finished their bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) within 150% of the normal time (6 years for a typical 4-year program).
  • Transfer Out Tab: Here, you can see the percentage of students who transferred to another school before finishing a program.

These data files used in this report, om[academic year] (ex: om2016), display the outcome measures of students.

  • Variables:
    • Enrollment Types (omchrt):
      • This variable is a two digit number where the first digit tells us the type of enrollment of the student and the last digit tells us if they received Pell grants or not.
      • First Digit:
        • 1*: First-time, full time
        • 2*: First-time part time
        • 3*: Non-first-time full time
        • 4*: Non-first-time part time
      • Second Digit:
        • 1: Pell grant-recipient
        • 2: Non-Pell grant recipient
    • Proportion of Students who Received an Award within X Years:
      • OMAWDP4: Proportion of students who received an award within 4 years.
      • OMAWDP6: Proportion of students who received an award within 6 years.
      • OMAWDP8: Proportion of students who received an award within 8 years.
      • OMENRTP: Proportion of students who did not receive an award within 8 years after entering the institution. They have either still enrolled at the same institution or a different one.
    • Students that received awards within 4 years are also counted in the 6 and 8 year figures. Thus, in the report we display the 6 year percentage as the difference between the 4 year and 6 year. The 8 year percentage is the difference between the 6 year and 8 year figures.
