Common Data Set (CDS)

We participate in the Common Data Set (CDS) Initiative to provide members of the higher education community and publishers with accurate, clear, and consistent information.

The CDS was developed in a collaborative effort between publishers and the educational community to improve the quality and accuracy of information and to reduce the reporting burden on institutions. Thus, the CDS is a collection of standard data items and definitions that are utilized by the higher education community and by publishers. Please visit the Common Data Set Initiative website to learn more.

Fact Sheets

The LC State Fact Sheet is intended to be a consistent and accurate source of information about LC State

IPEDS Data

IPEDS is the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. It is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs.

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires that institutions that participate in federal student aid programs report data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid.

These data are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator college search Web site and to researchers and others through the IPEDS Data Center.

Internal Surveys

We administer campus-wide surveys that inform strategic planning and administrative decisions.

The following surveys are reoccurring surveys we administer: Student Survey (administered annually), First-Destination Survey (administered semesterly), Campus Climate Survey (administered biennially), and Employee Survey (administered triennially).

NWCCU Mid-cycle Report

Since our last NWCCU site visit in 2018, we have engaged in self-analysis of what it means to fulfill our mission. In following the guidelines of the new 2020 NWCCU standards, we have established direct and indirect benchmark assessments for student learning outcomes, set reasonable targets for improvement, created an accreditation stakeholder committee (including faculty and staff content experts), and have firmly established institutional strategic priorities for the next seven years that align with our mission and stakeholder expectations.

Please feel free to view the data from our NWCCU Mid-cycle Review.

Graduation Rates for LC State and Peers

Graduation rates of students who are 1) first-time college-going, 2) initially attending full-time (>12 credits) during their entering (fall/summer) semester, 3) intending to pursue a degree or certificate, 4) and completed a degree or certificate within 150% normative time.

NORMAL TIME TO COMPLETION - The amount of time necessary for a student to complete all requirements for a degree or certificate according to the institution's catalog. This is typically 4 years for a bachelor's degree; 2 years for an associate's degree; and the various scheduled time for certificate programs.

COMPLETERS WITHING 150% (OF NORMAL TIME) - Students (within a cohort or sub cohort) who completed their program within 150% of the normal time to completion. See Normal Time.

TOTAL TRANSFER-OUT STUDENTS (NON-COMPLETERS) - Total number of students from the cohort or sub cohort who transferred out at any time within 150% of normal time to completion. A transfer-out student is a student who has not completed or graduated from the program in which he or she was enrolled, but who has subsequently enrolled at another eligible institution in any program for which the reporting institution provided substantial preparation.

Graduation Rate By Grant and Cohort Status

The proportion of first-time (full/part)-time, degree/certificate-seeking students entering the institution during the 12-month period of July 1st to June 30th who received an award (degree or certificate) from the institution within 4, 6, or 8 years after their initial enrollment as well as those who did not receive an award but are still enrolled 8 years after entry at the reporting institution of higher education.

The proportion of transfer (in), (full/part)-time, degree/certificate-seeking students entering the institution during the 12-month period of July 1st to June 30th who received an award (degree or certificate) from the institution within 4, 6, or 8 years after their initial enrollment as well as those who did not receive an award but are still enrolled 8 years after entry at the reporting institution of higher education.

Student Debt Reports

The median original amount of the loan principal accumulated at the institution upon entering repayment. [Variable name in College Scorecard data is "DEBT_MEDN"]. These figures represent federal loans. Non-federal loans and federal loans not made to the student (e.g. Parent PLUS loans) are not included.

A 3-year cohort default rate is the percentage of a school's borrowers (completers and non-completers) who enter repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program or William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program loans during a particular federal fiscal year, October 1st to September 30th, and default or meet other specified conditions prior to the end of the second following fiscal year. [Variable name in College Scorecard data is "crd3".] The data associated with each year are behind such that rates reported for 2018-19 depicts the default rates of borrowers who entered repayment between Oct. 1st 2016, to Sept. 30th, 2017.

Instructional Expenditure

Instructional expenditures divided by the number of FTE students (undergraduates and graduate students) (http://nces.ed.gob/ipeds/glossary/index.asp?id=854). Instructional expenditures are included in the IPEDS Finance component and FTE enrollment is included in the IPEDS 12-Month Enrollment component. This metric includes graduate students.

Retention Rate and Student Faculty Ratio

The full-time retention rate is the percent of the fall full-time bachelor's-seeking cohort from the prior year that re-enrolled at the institution as either full-or part-time in the current year.

Student-to-faculty ratio is defined as total FTE students (not in graduate or professional programs) divided by total FTE instructional staff (not teaching in graduate or professional programs).
