Security and Software Improvements
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve security and ensure consistent software across campus, all LC State computers will soon be enrolled in Microsoft Intune. This tool helps the IT department keep your device secure, apply updates, and provide support more easily—especially when you are not connected to the campus network. Once your device is enrolled, there are a few key improvements to note:
Bitlocker Drive Encryption
All hard drives will be encrypted using BitLocker, a built-in Windows security feature.
Why this matters:
- It protects your data in case your device is lost or stolen.
- It helps us meet compliance standards for handling sensitive information.
- You’ll have access to a recovery key in case your device ever needs it.
Upgrade to Microsoft 365 Apps
Your current version of Microsoft Office will be upgraded to the latest Microsoft 365 version.
What’s new:
- Always up-to-date with the latest features and security patches.
- Seamless integration with OneDrive, Teams, and other Microsoft services.
- Access to new productivity tools and collaboration features.
Preparing for Windows 11
Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Enrolling your device in Intune helps us get your system ready for a smooth upgrade to Windows 11, ensuring you continue to receive critical updates and support.
Timeline
We will be rolling this update out throughout the next month. If the computer is connected to our wired network, it will upgrade and encrypt in the background within the next few weeks. There should be no interruption to your productivity during this time. IT will be contacting departments to get access to machines that do not access the wired network to manually get them enrolled in Intune.
