LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College is once again organizing an annual day of service and events to honor the memory of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King Jr.and Idaho Human Rights Day is Monday, January 20, and Lewis-Clark Service Corps is coordinating volunteer activities on that day from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Volunteers will be able to participate with a number of community partners, including:
- Opportunities Unlimited Clothing Bank
- Habitat for Humanity
- Idaho Fish & Game (building birdhouses at the LCSC Student Union Building)
- St. Vincent de Paul in Lewiston and Clarkston
- Lewiston Parks and Recreation/Washington-Idaho Volunteer Center
- Lewiston Library
- Interlink Volunteers
- Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter (Must be 18 unless accompanied by a parent.)
- Burrell Street Station Assisted Living
- Mill Creek Social Services
- Idaho Food Bank Warehouse
At 6 p.m. local musical groups will perform at the LCSC SUB amphitheater, followed by a candlelight walk to the Williams Conference Center (WCC). At 7 p.m. the play The Right to Dream will be performed in the WCC by the Living Voices Theater Company from Seattle. The play addresses the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi during the 1950’s and 60’s.
