LEWISTON, Idaho - The LCSC Center for Arts & History presents Palouse Women Artists: Best of the Best in the downstairs galleries, and the 2nd Annual LCSC Staff & Faculty Art Exhibition in the upstairs galleries. The exhibits will open to the public on Friday, January 24, with the opening reception from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. The exhibits run through March 1, 2014.
Best of the Best is an exhibit with a variety of media: fused glass, oil painting, printing, ceramics, fabric art, assemblage, sculpture, encaustic, copper enameling, pastels, photography, quilling, watercolor, mixed media, and book-making. The Palouse Women Artists (PWA) have been making and exhibiting art in the Palouse region for over 30 years. Best of the Best is a tribute to these artists and the art they’ve produced. Curated by George Wray, a retired University of Idaho art professor, this exhibit showcases the work of artists who have spent decades honing their craft and developing their imagery.
Palouse Women Artists encourages women to find their media and express themselves through their art. Many have gone on to be professional artists, exhibiting in national shows, selling their work in the area and throughout the United States.
The 2nd Annual LCSC Staff & Faculty Art Exhibition will be showcased in the upstairs galleries. The CAH considers this exhibition to be a unique opportunity to combine artwork by staff and faculty, including non-art modalities, and believes strongly in the campus’ artistic community and importance of supporting them by providing opportunities to further their work.
The Palouse Women Artists: Best of the Best and the 2nd Annual LCSC Faculty & Staff Exhibition is brought to the LCSC Center for Arts & History by sponsorship from Gritman Medical Center, the LCSC Office of the President, and through grants from US Bancorp, the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Docent tours of the exhibit can be scheduled by calling the Gallery at 208.792.2243,
