LEWISTON, Idaho - The name of Lewis-Clark State College’s Division of Education officially has been changed to Education and Kinesiology.
The name change was requested by the division faculty to reflect the growing number of Kinesiology majors. During the academic year of 2012-2013 the division reported 176 Kinesiology majors, which represents 38% of the total number of students within the division. In addition to a major in Elementary Education and certification in Secondary Education (English, History, Health/Physical Education, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Natural Science, and Math), the division offers programs in Sport Administration (with a Business component) and in Kinesiology with emphases in Exercise Science/Sports Medicine, Health Promotion/Personal Training/Wellness Coaching, Youth Sports/Recreation, and Sports Administration/Coaching.
Students who major in Kinesiology are prepared for jobs in the health and fitness industries, as athletic coaches and administrators, and for admission into graduate school in the allied health sciences such as Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy and exercise and sport sciences.
