LEWISTON, Idaho – Touring performing artist and world acclaimed slam poet Ebony Stewart will perform on May 1 at 8 p.m. at the Lewis-Clark State College Silverthorne Theatre.
Stewart’s performance, sponsored by the Warrior Entertainment Board, is free and open to the public. Because of the adult content of the show, attendees must be 18 years of age or older.
Stewart is the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam Cham Champion and has been voted the Top Female Touring Poet by the Spoken Word Awards. Slam poetry is a form of poetry that combines the elements of performance, writing, competition, and audience participation. The slam comes from the audience’s power to praise or destroy a poem during the high-energy performance by the poet.
Stewart is an international touring poet. Her work speaks to the black experience, with emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, and race, with the hopes to be relatable, remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities.
She is the only adult female three-time Champion at the Slam Competition in Austin, Texas. She participated in a one woman show called “Hunger,” in which she won a local Austin award for best lead actress. She also has had her poems published in a book she wrote called “Love Letters to Balled Fists.”
Stewart coaches and mentors touring poets. She is a former sex educator and sexual health activist. She is pursuing a license as a sex therapist.
