LEWISTON, Idaho – Two recent graduates of the Lewis-Clark State College graphic communications program finished second and third in a poster design contest sponsored by the Printing Industries Association, Inc., of Southern California (PIASC).
Alex Austin, who is from Lewiston, placed second in the College Category competition, while Jazmyn Roy, from Lewiston, was third. Both graduated earlier this month with graphic communications associate degrees.
PIASC supports and advocates for the graphics industry for 13 western states. Each year it sponsors competitions, including the Northwest States Student Competition, which is open for both college and high school students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Utah and Wyoming.
Each year students are asked to create a post that inspires students to learn about the graphics and printing industry. The themes for this year’s competition included “print is essential,” “print is imaginable,” and “print opens doors.”
Austin used “print is imaginable” and his poster featured a cartoon head of man dreaming that “print is imaginable.” Roy used “print opens doors” and drew an open door with sheets of paper blowing in the door.
Both students received small monetary rewards for placing in the top three.
LC State offers a 60-credit associate degree in graphic communications.
