LC State’s Myklebust named New Postsecondary Teacher of the Year

Lewis-Clark State College Fire Service Technology instructor Travis Myklebust was recognized as the 2024 New Postsecondary Teacher of the Year by Career Technical Educators of Idaho (CTEI). The award was presented to him on July 31 during the Connect CTE Conference held in Boise, Idaho.

The New Teacher of the Year award was given to Myklebust for showing significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs, and professional commitment. The award is based on nominations and candidates must be in the first three to five years of their profession. Other stipulations include recipients being a member of CTEI.

Before becoming a full-time LC State faculty member in fall 2023, Myklebust was an adjunct instructor for one year. While being an adjunct instructor, he was fire chief for the Lewiston Fire Department. Myklebust has received the new teacher of the year award in Idaho Region 2, at the state level, and will now compete against new teachers from about 10 states for a regional title.

“I am just humbled to first be nominated let alone receiving the award,” said Myklebust. “I love teaching our future firefighters and feel paying it forward with the knowledge I have been given throughout my 31-year career in the fire service is a great opportunity for everyone.”
