LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College’s Teacher Education & Mathematics Division recently announced the winner of this year's Outstanding Teacher Educator Award. The recipient will be Jane Ann Shaw of Webster Elementary School.
The award, which was created to recognize individuals for their contribution to the process of developing teacher candidates, will be presented to Shaw during the division's graduation banquet on May 7.
Shaw is currently a fifth-grade teacher and is an alumna of LC State. She has been a teacher in the Lewiston School District for 11 years. She has been mentoring Lewis-Clark State College teaching candidates since 2020.

“Jane Ann hosts a student teacher (intern) for 16 weeks at a time and mentors the intern in classroom management, lesson and unit planning, curricular scope and sequence, implementation, and adaptation, effective communication, conflict resolution, family communication skills, team building, and cooperation skills (including participation in Professional Learning Communities, shared planning time with partner teachers and more), participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and other special meetings, and shares instruction with the intern as they teach lessons for our program,” said LC State associate professor Christina Brando-Subis. “She models what good instruction and teaching should look like and gradually releases more responsibility to the intern so that they can practice what they have observed and are learning as they prepare to become teachers.
“Jane Ann has been a consistent, kind, honest mentor for our program and candidates, and is an exemplary example of providing a thoughtful and well-designed classroom environment with consistent management skills and building positive connections with her students.”
As an alumna, she has played an active role as both a mentee and mentor.
“I personally had so many wonderful influences who shaped me into the educator that I am now, not only during my internship, but afterwards as well,” said Shaw. “I hope to leave a lasting impact and pass along wisdom that I have gained in my position.”
