Medical Biller/Coder
Become proficient in medical insurance billing and coding, and well prepared for the Certified Professional Coder exam.
Students will learn basic coding techniques, insurance preparation (with particular focus on Medicare), medical terminology, and data entry skills. This class prepares students for the Certified Professional Coder exam.
Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to apply ICD-10 codes to diagnoses and apply CPT codes to procedures, both following proper American Hospital Association guidelines. Graduates can prepare insurance forms for various payers, including Medicaid, Medicare, Workers' Compensation, and Blue Cross, and demonstrate basic knowledge of medical billing software, including data entry for charges and remittances, as well as end-of-day reporting procedures. Completion of a Technical Skill Assessment is required.
