LC State Admissions/Placement Testing
We offer the ALEKS Math and WPE English Placement Exams for LC State admittance and course placement. We also offer the ACT Residual Exam on an as needed basis. We proctor the HESI A2 exam for applicants of the LC State Radiographic Science Program.
ALEKS Math Placement
- Contact the Testing Center to request to take the math placement test.
- Instructions for paying the fee to LC and creating your ALEKS account will be provided by LC Testing Center Staff.
- The fee for testing is:
- $25 if testing at the LC Testing Center
- There is a fee of $5 for a second attempt of the proctored test
- This fee can be paid online or in person to the campus cashier in the Administration Building
- Take the unproctored (practice) test and practice in the Prep and Learning Modules.
- Schedule an appointment for your proctored test.
- Contact via phone 208-792-2100.
- Fill out the Appointment Request Form.
- Stop in and make an appointment in person, Library Room 161.
- Arrive at your test appointment 10 minutes early for check-in and bring the following required items:
- Current, valid, physical picture ID.
- ALEKS user name and password.
ALEKS accounts must be created with an LC State course code. This is given in the instructions from LC Testing Center Staff.
Yes. Below are several different options available to those who cannot come to the LC State campus Testing Center.
AT HOME: You can test at home using your own PC or Mac computer that has a webcam and microphone and if you have a stable internet connection. The testing sessions is recorded. Phones, tablets, or Chromebooks WILL NOT work.
- Pay the $25 test fee online to LC State.
- Email the Testing Center and request to take the ALEKS Math placement test.
- Instructions for creating your account and how to test will then be emailed to you.
- Follow the instructions to create your account.
- Follow the instructions for practicing, downloading the required browser, and taking your placement test.
- You will download a special browser and use your webcam to record the testing session.
NIC TESTING CENTER: You can test at the NIC Testing Center with no additional proctoring fee. You will only be responsible for paying the $20 fee to LC for your ALEKS account.
- First, contact the LC Campus Testing center at 208-792-2100 or testing@lcsc.edu and tell staff that you plant to test at the NIC Testing Center. We will give you instructions for making the required payment, submitting the Proctor Request Form, and creating your ALEKS account.
- Second, after you have made the payment to LC and been set instructions for creating your account, schedule your appointment with NIC on the NIC Testing Center website.

OUTSIDE PROCTOR: You can find a qualified proctor and fill out the Proctor Request Form – LC State Distance Students form.
- This form must be sent in a minimum of 1 week prior to the anticipated testing date to ensure adequate time to fulfill the request.
- You will pay LC the $20 fee online.
- Once the fee is paid you will be emailed instructions for creating your ALEKS account
- We will send proctoring instructions to your proctor through email.
- Students are responsible for any fee their proctoring site may charge.
- Any Career and Technical program applicant.
- Any Academic program applications that want to attempt to place in a higher math class
- Transfer students with 14 or fewer credits and are not transferring any math credits.
- Dual credit students
Test scores are available immediately after testing. You will receive one copy of your proctored test results at the Testing Center. Admissions will download ALEKS scores and input them into your student account.
You can first take one unproctored test at home for practice.
You are allowed to take a proctored ALEKS test twice.
Students are not allowed to register for and start a math class and then come take the ALEKS test to place higher without permission from the Math Division Chair.
Yes, please contact your school first to get the information needed to create your ALEKS account with their course code and to request the proctor password be sent to LC State. After you have contacted your school to arrange for the exam to be taken at LC State, contact us to make an appointment. There will be a proctoring fee of $25 for this testing.

Yes, please follow the procedures below.
- Print the Authorization to Share ALEKS Test Results form*.
- Fill out the form in its entirety and be sure to sign and date the bottom.
- Original signature is required, digital signature is not acceptable.
- Send the form to the Testing Center via email, fax or deliver it in person.

English Placement (WPE)
To take the English Placement Exam (WPE):
- Contact the LC State Testing Center to make an appointment.
- Call 208.792.2100.
- Fill out the Appointment Request – At LC State Campus Testing Center Form.
- Stop by our office, Library Building Room 161.
- Pay the $15 testing fee one of two ways.
- Pay in person the campus cashier in the Administration Building.
- Pay online with credit or debit card.
- Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time for check in and bring the following:
- Valid, physical picture ID.
- Receipt for the testing fee payment.
- if the payment is made online a receipt will automatically be emailed to us.
Students will have 1 hour to type an essay about the prompt they are given. Topics are randomly assigned by Testing Center Staff.

- Transfer students with 14 or fewer credits who are not transferring any English credits.

Scoring of the exams will be done by English faculty members who are knowledgeable about the expectations for students’ writing skills upon entering LC State English courses.
You will be notified of your placement via email within 3 business days of submitting the placement exam.
The English Placement Exam (WPE) can only be taken one time, with a few specific exceptions:
- Interference with the testing process caused by problems with technology
- Distractions during testing
- Health issues
- Similar factors as judged by the exam proctor
- Documentation of successful completion of an Adult Learning Center course in the content area in which a student wishes to retest will serve as justification for one additional WPE retake.
If you feel you have been inaccurately placed via the WPE, you will be allowed to seek alternative placement through an exam administered by the Director of Writing in the Humanities Division.
No, this writing placement exam is for internal use at LC State only.
HESI A2 - LC State Radiographic Science
To make an appointment contact the Testing Center:
- 208.792.2100.
- Fill out the Appointment Request – At LC State Campus Testing Center.
- Stop in our office; Library Building Room 161.
Bring the following items with you to your exam appointment:
- Receipt for payment to Evolve.
- Receipt for $15 payment to LC State - if paid to the campus cashier.
- This fee can be paid online. If paid online a receipt is emailed to the Testing Center automatically.
- Evolve user name and password.
- Evolve assigns you a user name after you pay your fee. Instructions for creating your Evolve account are on the Nursing and Health Science Website.
- Valid, physical picture ID.
There are two fees for the HESI A2 Exam.
- $15 testing fee is paid to LC State one of two ways.
- pay online with credit or debit card.
- paid to the campus cashier in the Administration Building.
- $58 (subject to change without notice by Evolve) is paid online to Evolve when creating your account for testing.
Scores are available immediately after completion of the exam.
You will print your score report from home and attach it to your application.
LC State charges a non-refundable service fee for credit/debit card transactions.
